CEFACLOR

CEFACLOR: Cefaclor is an antibiotic drug belonging to the cephalosporin class. It is commonly prescribed to treat a variety of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and ear infections.

The mechanism of action of cefaclor involves inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. It does this by binding to specific enzymes called penicillin-binding proteins, which are involved in the formation of the bacterial cell wall. By blocking these enzymes, cefaclor prevents the bacteria from forming a strong and protective cell wall, ultimately leading to their death.

The dosage of cefaclor can vary depending on the type and severity of the infection. However, the usual recommended dose for adults is 250-500 mg taken orally every 8 hours. For children, the dosage is determined based on their weight and is generally prescribed as 20 mg/kg per day given in divided doses.

Like all medications, cefaclor can cause side effects. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, dizziness, and rash. In rare cases, more serious side effects such as allergic reactions (including severe rash, itching, and swelling), difficulty breathing or swallowing, and severe diarrhea or abdominal pain may occur. It is important to contact a healthcare professional if any concerning or persistent side effects are experienced while taking cefaclor.
