KETOROLAC

KETOROLAC: Ketorolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) primarily used for short-term management of moderate to severe acute pain, such as postoperative pain or pain from kidney stones. It is available in both oral and injectable forms.

The drug works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are substances in the body that cause inflammation and pain. By reducing the levels of prostaglandins, ketorolac helps alleviate pain and inflammation.

The usual recommended dose of ketorolac for adults is 10 mg every 4 to 6 hours, up to a maximum of 40 mg per day. It should be taken for no longer than 5 days due to the risk of serious side effects. The injectable form is typically used in hospitals or clinical settings.

Some common side effects of ketorolac include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, and headache. It can also cause gastrointestinal bleeding, kidney damage, and allergic reactions in some individuals. Long-term use or exceeding the recommended dose can increase the risk of side effects.

It is important to note that ketorolac should not be used in individuals with a history of asthma, bleeding disorders, peptic ulcers, severe kidney impairment, or those who are in the third trimester of pregnancy. It should be used with caution in elderly patients and those with cardiovascular disease.

As with any medication, it is crucial to follow the prescribed dose and duration advised by a healthcare professional and to report any concerning side effects promptly.
