METRONIDAZOLE: Metronidazole is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal drug that is used to treat various infections caused by bacteria and parasites. It belongs to the nitroimidazole class of antibiotics.

Metronidazole works by interfering with the DNA of microorganisms, thereby inhibiting their growth and causing cell death. It is effective against a wide range of pathogens, including anaerobic bacteria, certain protozoa, and some parasites.

The drug is commonly prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections in the gastrointestinal tract, pelvic region, skin, and respiratory system. It is also used to treat certain sexually transmitted infections, such as trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis.

Metronidazole should be taken exactly as prescribed by a healthcare professional. It is essential to complete the entire course of treatment, even if symptoms improve, to ensure the infection is completely eradicated.
