MIZOLASTINE
MIZOLASTINE: Mizolastine is an antihistamine drug used to treat symptoms associated with allergies such as hay fever, allergic rhinitis, and allergic conjunctivitis. It is also used to relieve symptoms of hives (urticaria).
The mechanism of action of mizolastine involves blocking the effects of histamine, a chemical released during an allergic reaction. By blocking histamine receptors, mizolastine prevents the body from producing symptoms like sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose.
The usual recommended dose for adults and children over 12 years old is 10 mg once daily. For children aged 6 to 12 years, the recommended dose is 5 mg once daily. The drug is available in tablet form.
Common side effects of mizolastine may include drowsiness, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. It is important to note that mizolastine can cause drowsiness and impair cognitive functions, so caution should be exercised when operating machinery or driving a vehicle.
Rare but serious side effects may include cardiac rhythm disorders such as prolongation of the QT interval, which could lead to a potentially life-threatening abnormal heart rhythm. Patients with a history of heart rhythm disorders or taking other medications that prolong the QT interval should be cautious when using mizolastine and consult their healthcare provider.
It is essential to consult a healthcare professional before starting mizolastine or any other medication to ensure its safe and appropriate use, especially if you have any underlying medical conditions or are taking other medications.
