NATAMYCIN
NATAMYCIN: NATAMYCIN is an antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections in the eyes. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of fungal keratitis (corneal ulcers) caused by certain types of fungi, including Fusarium, Aspergillus, and Candida.
The mechanism of action of NATAMYCIN involves inhibiting the growth of the fungi by binding to their cell membranes, disrupting their function and ultimately leading to cell death.
NATAMYCIN is usually available in the form of eye drops and is administered directly into the affected eye. The typical recommended dose is one or two drops applied to the affected eye(s) every one to two hours during waking hours. The treatment duration may vary depending on the severity of the infection and the response to treatment, but it is generally continued for several weeks.
Like any medication, NATAMYCIN may have side effects. The most common side effects include blurred vision, eye discomfort or irritation, redness, itching, and watery eyes. Some individuals may also experience eye pain, foreign body sensation, increased sensitivity to light, or allergic reactions such as rash or swelling. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional.
It is important to note that NATAMYCIN is specifically formulated for use in the eye and should not be ingested or used on other parts of the body without direct medical supervision.
