VOGLIBOSE: Drug: Voglibose

Use: Voglibose is an oral anti-diabetic medication primarily used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to help control blood glucose levels.

Mechanism of Action: Voglibose belongs to a class of drugs called alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. It works by delaying the breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine. By inhibiting the enzyme alpha-glucosidase, it slows down the digestion of carbohydrates and reduces the postprandial increase in blood glucose levels.

Dose: The usual recommended dose of voglibose is 0.2-0.6 mg taken orally three times a day, usually just before a meal.

Side Effects: Like any medication, voglibose can cause side effects. Common side effects include flatulence, diarrhea, stomach discomfort, and bloating. These side effects are usually mild and tend to subside with continued use. In some cases, it may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) when used in combination with other anti-diabetic agents.
