Galvus Met 50mg/500mg Tablet is a medicine that contains a combination of two active ingredients: Metformin and Vildagliptin. Metformin belongs to the class of medications called biguanides, while Vildagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. This tablet is primarily used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps in controlling blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity and reducing glucose production in the liver. Metformin also assists in decreasing the absorption of glucose from the intestines. Vildagliptin works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and reducing the amount of glucagon, a hormone that raises blood sugar levels. Galvus Met is prescribed to patients whose blood glucose levels cannot be effectively managed by Metformin alone or for those who have not responded adequately to Vildagliptin or Metformin monotherapy.
