CEFPROZIL
CEFPROZIL: Cefprozil is an antibiotic drug used to treat various bacterial infections. It belongs to the class of medications known as cephalosporins. Cefprozil works by inhibiting the growth and spread of bacteria in the body.
This drug is primarily prescribed for respiratory tract infections, including bronchitis, pneumonia, strep throat, and tonsillitis. It is also effective in treating skin and skin structure infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
The recommended dosage of cefprozil may vary depending on the infection being treated and the patient’s age and weight. Typically, the adult dose for respiratory tract infections ranges from 250 to 500 mg twice daily for 10 days. For skin and skin structure infections, the dose may be increased to 500 mg twice daily for up to 14 days.
Side effects of cefprozil are usually mild and temporary. The most common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and headache. Some individuals may also experience allergic reactions, such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing. It is important to contact a healthcare professional if any severe side effects or allergic reactions occur.
Cefprozil should only be used as prescribed and for the duration recommended by the healthcare provider. Stopping the medication too early may lead to the reoccurrence of the infection or the development of antibiotic resistance.
