DESLORADINE
DESLORADINE: Desloratadine is an antihistamine medication used to treat allergies and relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat. It belongs to a class of drugs called second-generation H1-antihistamines.
Desloratadine works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. By blocking histamine, it helps alleviate the allergic response and provides relief from allergy symptoms.
The usual recommended dose of desloratadine for adults and children 12 years and older is 5mg (one tablet or one teaspoon of syrup) once a day. For children aged 6 to 11 years, the recommended dose is 2.5mg (half a tablet or half a teaspoon of syrup) once daily. It can be taken with or without food.
Some common side effects of desloratadine may include dry mouth, headache, fatigue, drowsiness, upset stomach, or nausea. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. It is important to note that some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to desloratadine. If you develop symptoms such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek immediate medical attention.
Desloratadine may interact with other medications, so it’s important to inform your healthcare provider about all the drugs you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal remedies.
It is essential to read the medication guide provided by your pharmacist and follow the instructions carefully. Consult with a healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns about the use of desloratadine.
