ETORICOXIB

ETORICOXIB: Etoricoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with various conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gouty arthritis. It belongs to the class of selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors.

The main mechanism of action of etoricoxib is its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins, which are substances involved in the inflammatory process. By selectively targeting the COX-2 enzyme, etoricoxib helps to reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation without significantly affecting the COX-1 enzyme, which plays a protective role in the gastrointestinal tract.

The dosage of etoricoxib varies depending on the condition being treated. For osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, the recommended dose is typically 60 mg once daily. In acute gouty arthritis, a higher dose of 120 mg once daily may be used for a maximum duration of eight days.

As with any medication, etoricoxib can cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. The common side effects include headache, dizziness, fluid retention, high blood pressure, stomach pain, indigestion, and diarrhea. In rare cases, more serious side effects such as cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke), allergic reactions, and liver problems may occur. It is important to consult a healthcare professional before starting etoricoxib and report any unusual or severe side effects.
